Carson Long Military Academy

Community Service Program

Collaborated with the Academic Dean and Senior Army Instructor, developed a scaffolding program in which students start with Community Service and then progress to Service Learning.

​

  • Built relationships within the community in order to identify needs in which our program could assist.
     

  • Collaborated with the JROTC Senior Army Instructor to teach new students community service concepts - then empower students in 12th grade (LET 4) to lead a service learning program.
     

  • Manage numerous service projects between the community, faculty, and students on a weekly basis.
     

  • Assist faculty to clarify and exercise 21st Century Skills through service activities.
     

  • Regularly presents students and faculty projects - either communicating via email, announcements at lunch, and presentation to the whole corps.

Community Programs

As the Programs & Services Manager, the position included an array of responsibilities that included: Gallery Manager (developing an inventory system, criteria, and method for exhibiting), Community Events Coordinator, and Graphic Designer (created the public relations material - e.g. advertisements, flyers, newsletters).

 

Community events managed:  

Small community groups, such as coffeehouses, writers group, and poetry competition.

​

Little Buffalo Festival of the Arts Marketplace and Children’s Art Area Coordinator.
 

Youth Art Day Coordinator This program features a judged visual and literature exhibit and evaluated performances. It includes over 700 students from Perry County and over 30 volunteers.

 

Rt15 By Way of the Arts, Trail Coordinator 
PCCA was one of several arts organization the PA Department of Tourism asked to coordinate an artisan trail in select regions.

We grew from 300 sq. ft. space to a 1200 sq. ft. space (in 2000), featuring the work of local artists. I customized an inventory system, criteria, and method for exhibiting.

 

In 2006, we were awarded Best Guild Store by NICHE Magazine and then in 2007, Best Art Nonprofit.
